Happy New Year’s 2017

We look forward to 2017 in just a few days with a mix of optimism and trepidation. How can it be otherwise for investors? The economic slowdown of the past 18 months seems to be coming to an end, suggesting stronger growth coming our way in 2017. Yet a new president, promising a new agenda, adds to uncertainty. We have all been here before, but each time it feels different and it feels uncomfortable. We at Summit Place feel confident that we know how to navigate what may lie ahead.
So let’s take a few days to celebrate 2016. This year is ending on a surprisingly strong note for our equity investments. Forget the adage “So goes January, so goes the year.” This is the year we proved that one wrong again. The uncomfortable correction that started 2016 is well behind us and after slowly trending down since the summer of 2014, the S&P 500 is poised for a new high.
Summit Place also feels poised for a new high. This year, we welcomed another professional advisor to the firm, Elaine Lee. After gaining experience at a local brokerage advising firm, Elaine sought an independent firm. Elaine was drawn to our structure, and fell in love with our culture. She shares our passion for building personal relationships and focusing on both our clients’ lives and their best interests. Elaine is originally from NYC and currently lives in Madison, NJ with her husband and daughters. We also were excited this year to celebrate Robyn’s wedding. We are so happy for you Robyn and Jason! Robyn continues to manage our portfolio administration and many of our clients’ daily service needs. Finally, my husband and I and our twin daughters have survived the college application process! We are very proud to have ended the year learning that one daughter will attend the University of Pennsylvania in their engineering program. We are equally excited that our other daughter has a choice of schools to start her process and she has decided to wait until the spring to make a final decision.
